Greywater flows into mulch basin. The "mulch shield" plastic pot is usually covered with a cement paver. There is a 3" air gap between the greywater pipe and the mulch to prevent roots from growing into the pipe and clogging it.

Kitchen sink greywater is split with "flow splitters", dividing into 3 parts and irrigating fruit trees. This image was taken during construction of the system, once complete the pipes were fully buried and the flow splitters covered for easy access.

Greywater flows into a mulch shield and distributes through mulch around the basin in the drip line of cherry tree.  The bottom has been cut out of a plastic nursery pot to create an "observation hole" in the mulch shield--it will be covered with a stone or concrete paver to keep debris from entering the shield.
