Mulch basin

The greywater is discharged at the drip line of the tree.

Irrigating raised beds

A 1" line is attached to the top of the bed and greywater pours down into the bed. Soil should be mulched and, (like the squash shown), large crops should be grown so that they are not touched by the greywater.

Under paver

This greywater is discharged under a cement paver to protect it and mark its location.

"Tuning" system with garden hose

After the irrigation side of the laundry to landscape system is set up it needs to be "tuned" or "balanced" to ensure even flow through all the outflow locations. A fitting called a "barbed by female garden hose with swivel" is used to attach a garden hose to the system. The hose is turned on and all the outflow locations can be adjusted to get an even flow.

Green back valves

"Greenback" ball valves have a larger opening on the inside than other brands of ball valves. To prevent clogging, they are recommended for laundry to landscape systems.

Homemade "valve box"

This "valve box", aka plastic mulch shield, was made using an old plastic pot. The greywater line enters through a hole drilled in the side of the pot.  The greywater should discharge at least 2 inches below ground level and at least 2 inches above the mulch at the bottom of the valve box.  Usually a paving stone covers this plastic mulch shield in the yard to mark its location.

Using too much soap

The greywater line has 1/4 inch holes drilled near plants along this narrow bed. The soapy water is an indicator that too much detergent is being used.

Irrigating raised bed

The 1" poly tube is laid down the middle of this narrow raised bed. 1/4 inch holes are drilled toward the bottom of the pipe to distribute greywater throughout the bed. The bed should be mulched with straw and planted with veggie's with the edible portions above the ground to avoid their being touched by greywater.
