3-way for zones

A 3-way valve outside can create 2 separate zones for distributing greywater.

Zones with 3-way valve

A brass 3-way valve can used outside as a fool proof way to create zones.  There is no danger that both zones will be closed at the same time with this valve.

Ball valve for greywater diversion

2-way diverter valves, called ball valves, can be used in certain situations instead of a 3-way diverter. When the valve is shut off the water backs up and overflows into the greywater line to the left. This valve is harder to turn than the 3-way valve, and it has more chances of clogging (gunk can build up above the ball valve).

Auto vent outside

The auto vent is located outside the house. Pipe is painted to protect it from the sunlight.

Auto vent

The auto vent is on the exterior of the house. The greywater line runs beneath the stairs to the yard.

Piping around structures

PVC pipe can be strapped to the edge of a building on the way to the yard. If the pipe is in the sun it should be painted to protect the plastic.

Piping from 2nd Story

1" PVC pipe is used to bring the greywater from the second story down to the landscape. The pipe will be painted to protect it from sun degradation.

"Auto vent" or "In-line vent"

An auto vent (also called "in-line vent) is used to prevent accidental siphoning of the washing machine as it refills. This product allows air to enter the line, but does not allow water to exit. They can be used inside a building or out.  In standard plumbing situations they're used for venting an island sink, or in a place where running a vent pipe up to the roof is not feasible.

3-way valve connection

Here a 3-way valve diverts greywater back to the sewer through the standpipe in a conventional "washing machine box" set in the wall.

Greywater going outside via crawl space

The greywater goes out of the house through the floor and travels across the crawl space underneath the house. The auto-vent is inside the house since it needs to be at the high point of the greywater line.
