Biography
Kirstie holds a Bachelor's in Geophysics from UC Santa Barbara and a Doctorate in Atmospheric Science from Columbia University. After working at a government laboratory for a few years, Kirstie took a break from basic scientific research in pursuit of solutions that have the potential to stabilize the earth's fluid envelope and failing ecosystems while simultaneously allowing humans to thrive.

While on this quest, Kirstie has been evaluating current sustainability practices, learning and implementing practical sustainability skills, and researching alternative socio-economic frameworks. This includes 6 months in Australia working on Permaculture farms, a year of exploring worker cooperatives in the US, UK, and Europe, learning about participatory economics and media at the 2010 Z Media Institute, and most recently becoming a certified greywater installer.

Kirstie was certified as a greywater installer on July 16, 2010 and has performed one joint installation to complete the certification. She has consulted on one SF greywater retrofit (no system was implemented in that case) in August 2010, and as of November 2010 is consulting on one NY greywater job.

Kirstie is a producer/researcher on http://permaculture.tv and is currently developing sustainability curricula for schools and communities. She gave an oral presentation in October 2010 at the 1st Annual Land Systems, Global Change, and Sustainability Conference, and has been organizing and teaching at the 1st Los Angeles Arboretum Permaculture Design Course throughout October and November 2010.

Kirstie has resumed scientific research, but is still available on weekends to perform greywater installations.
