I’m planning a branched-drain system like the ones discussed in the “Gravity-Flow, Branched Drain Systems and Greywater Irrigation in Arid Climates” video. I am not in an arid climate however. I have heavier, clayish soils with 42″ of rainfall per year. What would I need to alter for the systems discussed for arid systems? I’d probably want to plan bigger mulch basins at least since my soil drainage won’t be as fast? As long as I maintain a steep enough slope, I don’t think I would have to worry about burying lines below the frost line.

I did just get to the section of the video that talks about sizing mulch basins based on soil type, so that’s one answer. Are there any other changes I would need to make, though?

Hi Robin,
Sizing the basins based on your soil type and the amount of greywater will get you the right sized basins. One difference between arid and non-arid climates is in non-arid place you want to be sure rainwater runoff isn’t intentionally directed into the greywater basins (ie from a downspout).
Other than that the design is pretty much the same. If you have a septic/sewer option you’ll most likely want to redirect greywater there during the rainy season.
Hope this helps!
