Hi,

My first thought would be the plants received either too much or too little water. Too much water could cause the roots to become waterlogged.

Any issue with salt or boron in the water would take much longer than a month to affect the plant (assuming you were using the “wrong” products in the shower).  I would check the soil moisture levels. Also, be sure to water near the “drip line” of the plant- where the branches end. You shouldn’t put too much water near the base of the plant.

I know of other hydrangeas successfully irrigate with greywater, so you should be able to as well if you’re using the right products and are directly the right amount of water to the plants.

I overwatered mine, mistaking “hydrangea” to mean “bog plant”.  Apparently it’s not a bog plant!  I have about 2 years of experience with the greywater from the bathtub, and the hydrangea was super happy with the greywater up until the point I decided to let the water run over it in the winter time.  I just need to remember to use the sewer line in the winter time.  So yeah I definitely overwatered mine but we have wet winters and dry summers,  and in the summer time the plant was loving it.  So I don’t think it was any particular soap or mineral content of the water messing it up.  Good luck with your hydrangeas!
