I’ve had an existing laundry diversion to my Ornamental’s in my backyard. I would like to water my front yard now too. I’m not sure how to expand the system so it makes sense. The front yard is higher than the back and the washing machine is in the garage. Do I need a professional to design this?

Hi Shari,
You would need to do a few calculations to see if you have enough greywater to expand your system.
I explain how to do this in detail in my book, Greywater, Green Landscape. And to summarize briefly you would :
- Estimate how much greywater you generate each week (loads of a laundry per week multiplied by gallons per load).
- Estimate how much water your plants need (you’ll need a few resources to do this)
- then you match the greywater you produce to your plants needs. If you have extra, you can consider expanding your system.
Whether or not you can logistically expand the system is another question.
I’m teaching a free webinar Oct 21st that will go over how to do this design if you are interested. Here is the link.
