I’ve done a few of these before and I don’t recall ever having this problem.  The corrugated washer drain hose is a bit too narrow for a 1” barbed adapter (as the Urban Farmer Store suggested to use) so I’m using a 3/4” barbed adapter.  The drain hose is a bit wider than this adapter, and the connection leaks even with several hose clamps.  I then tried wrapping the adapter with teflon, which helped but it still leaked.

The inside of the existing drain hose is corrugated and is made to not be crushed, so it doesn’t really conform to the fitting when tightened with a hose clamp.  I can’t think of a way to connect it to rubber hose, but every video i see online appears to show a rubber hose coming into the diverter valve from the washer.  Every store just sells the corrugated washer hoses.

I’m currently waiting on an appliance repair company to arrive and help me take apart the washer to install another drain hose, this black one with a smooth inside wall that seems to fit snug over the 1” adapter.

 

Am I missing something?  I’ve talked with every greywater installer in town and they have never heard of this problem.  The diverter valve is clear, i can touch my fingers to each other in both directions.  Can’t imagine why this is happening.  Any feedback would be appreciated.

Thanks, Laura!  I bought a new hose but couldn’t find one that had an L-shaped turn at the inlet so it kinked.  The solution was to just attached the old hose to the new one with hose clamps, and it still had a plastic end so had to use pipe thread sealant but it worked!  Thanks for the tip, next time I’ll go to a smaller store for the rubber end hose.

Hi Jeremy,

It usually super easy to change out a washer drain hose, just one clamp in the back of the machine. I’d look down there and try it yourself, that would solve the problem of the incompatible drain hose. I think it would be quite difficult to get a water-tight seal with a rigid and corrugated hose. Usually the stores sell corrugated hoses with a short section of flat rubber at the end that you can clamp to. Might have to try some local hardware stores if the box ones don’t have it.
