I tried to post a follow up question in the thread below but couldn’t get it to work. Thank you so much, Laura, for the reply!

So it seems feasible to do this-run a garden hose to a utility sink outside to rinse the dog toys, and let it drain to a mulch basin. Here’s the next challenge: to prevent the spread of disease among the shelter dogs, the dog toys (kongs) have to sit in a disinfectant called “Accel” for a while, then we dump the used disinfectant down the drain in an indoor sink (not gray water). We’d continue to do this step inside, but would like to do the final rinsing at the outdoor sink so that a large group of people can do this work. We could let the toys completely drain off the Disinfectant first, but not Dry to the touch, so there will be residual disinfectant on them that would go into the ground. Is that a bad idea? Any code implications or harm to soil, plants, life?

for what it’s worth: this disinfectant is used to mop the floors in the shelter and it is deemed safe by the veterinarian for puppies to come in contact with it on their paws. Not claiming it is safe to drink! But it seems non toxic as far as skin contact. It does of course kill micro organisms like bacteria and viruses, so maybe it could have a detrimental effect on beneficial organisms in the soil(?)

It sounds to me like the there won’t be much of the solution left by the final rinse, and the mulch basin will offer a buffer for the soil. I wouldn’t plant a prized plant in case there is some negative affect, but most likely there won’t be. Seems like Accel is mostly hydrogen peroxide, which will not harm plants in low concentration. (Some people actually use hydrogen peroxide on plants intentionally.)
