Dear forum readers,
I have a question and I hope someone can answer my questions. What are the rules for installing a treated greywater system. Am I allowed, as a private person, to order a system in Europe, import it and have it installed it in my house or would that be against the rules? I found a system takes water from the shower & bath, cleans it and disinfects the water and then serves the toilets for flushing by a separate tube system. The system wil save about one third of total household water used and is low cost.
Kind regards,
Arthur

Hi Arthur,
You would need to ask your building department and it would depend on what state you are in. I could offer some more info after knowing your state.

Laura, I’m also interested in a system like this and wonder what info you have on legal and pre-legal greywater flushing systems in California (Alameda county). We have a new construction project and would at the least like to plump for the ability to install such a system in the future once state and local regulations catch up to this idea, what I think of as the holy grail of greywater use.
Surely it’s legal to plumb and cap-off a secondary intake for a toilet tank, and secondary outlets for a sink and shower, right?
