Hands-on greywater workshop (2 days, in Oregon)

Greywater irrigation systems can save water and grow beautiful, bountiful landscape. Learn how in this two day class.

Day 1: 9am-4pm

We’ll go over the theory of greywater irrigation. You’ll learn about popular types of systems, how to estimate greywater flows, how to estimate plant water requirements, how to deliver greywater to the landscape, filtration techniques, plant-friendly soaps and produces, plus relevant regulations for safe and legal systems.

Day 2: 9am-4pm.

We’ll design and install a real greywater system from a washing machine. You’ll learn how to set install a greywater diverter valve to control the flow of water, how to run piping, how to construct mulch basins, and how to install the irrigation portion of the system. By the end of the class we’ll run and test the system. All skill levels welcome.

Location:

The beautiful campus of the Center for Rural Livelihoods in Cottage Grove, Oregon. This is about 45 minutes from Eugene, Oregon. This is formally known as Aprovecho, and is an appropriate technology demonstration site. Learn more about the 40 acres of forest, strawbale buildings, and gardens here.

Housing:

There is housing onsite for an additional fee. Indoor housing $40/night and camping $20/site.

About the instructors:

Seth Meeves is a greywater installer and plumber living and working in Bend. He strives to use a holistic lens in his work as a plumber to help others conserve and appreciate our water resources. Through the installation of greywater and rainwater systems and other highly efficient systems he believes we can find a new (and more positive) norm for water use and consumption.

Laura Allen is the co-founder of Greywater Action. She’s written several how-to books on water reuse including The Water-Wise Home: How to Capture, Conserve, and Reuse Water in Your Home and Landscape and Greywater, Green Landscape.
