We can get Ecos at a local refillery, reducing the plastic involved. It advertises itself as greywater-safe, as noted elsewhere in this site. But the ingredients include Sodium Coco Sulfate. So I’m confused. How can something with sodium be greywater safe? Oasis, which is sodium-free, is available at a store nearby, but not as a refill, so I hope Ecos really is safe.

Hi Eric,

Salts are not all the same, and a small amount is not necessarily harmful.

I think ECOS is greywater safe. I’ve sent in many samples of greywater using ECOS to be tested for “irrigation suitability” and they were all suitable.  The only qualifier to that is that if you live somewhere with really salty water coming, and have very low rainfall, then you may want to flush the basins with rainwater to prevent salt build-up.

Hope this helps!
