I have an interior laundry room and envision installing a valve and pump to plumb greywater to my attic, then laterally to an exterior wall and down and out to an orchard. Is this allowed, and do you have suggestions? Thank you.

Hi Bob,
Sounds you you don’t have a crawlspace, which would be a potentially easier option to get the water out. If you need to go up to the attic to get out, you’ll need to add a pump into the system (in addition to the internal pump in the washing machine). This will trigger the need for a permit (if you don’t need an additional pump you can construct a system under the permit exempt category in a handful of states). So, to answer your question, what you describe is possible, and whether it’s allowed or not depends on your state greywater code. If your state allows greywater irrigation you will just need a permit for your system.
Hope this helps.
