Hi, I have been using a 55 gal drum system to capture our washing machine water, then pumping it to our yard and landscape using a 1/10 hp non-submersible pump. A foot of 3/4″ hose connects the pump to a spigot at the bottom of the barrel, then a length of garden hose goes to the yard. It takes about 15 minutes or so to empty the barrel. Its a tiny bit uphill (less than 5′ elevation gain) and about 60′ or so to the yard over some hardscape. I decided to upgrade the pump to reduce the pump-out time so bought a 1/2 hp pump this weekend. Its rated at 1525 GPH and should have a pressure of 50 psi. By my very rudimentary math, I figured it would take well under a minute to empty at that rate. I do realize there are several variables at play here, but when I tried it out it took about as long as the smaller pump. Does anyone have advice here? The only thing I can think of is that the prime is letting air in. I never primed the smaller pump and it worked fine. Thoughts??
Thanks in advance,
Cory
